Salomon’s XT-4 OG was built for terrain that rarely appears in a fashion campaign.

Originally developed as a technical trail silhouette, the shoe carries much of the equipment that made Salomon credible outdoors: a stabilizing Agile Chassis system, Contagrip outsole, protective toe construction, anti-debris mesh and the brand’s one-pull Quicklace system. Its second life, however, has increasingly taken place on pavement.

The latest Pearl Blue / Grisaille / Vanilla Ice colorway leans directly into that tension.

Instead of the dark, high-contrast palettes often associated with technical footwear, the upper is washed in pale blue and soft gray, with creamy Vanilla Ice accents giving the shoe an almost faded appearance. Black remains underneath through the chassis and outsole, preserving enough of the original trail character to keep the XT-4 from becoming overly polished.

It is a good example of why Salomon has translated so successfully from performance equipment into everyday wardrobes.

The company has not needed to disguise the engineering. The plastic structures, aggressive outsole and utilitarian lacing system remain visible. Instead, changing the palette is often enough to alter how the shoe is understood. What once looked strictly designed for mountain races can sit comfortably beside relaxed trousers, technical outerwear or a simple summer uniform.

That has become one of the more interesting developments in modern footwear: performance design no longer needs to look overtly athletic to earn an everyday place.

The XT-4 OG sits particularly well in that space. At 13 ounces with a 10 mm drop, it retains the substantial construction of a trail shoe while Salomon now explicitly positions the archival model for city use as much as its performance heritage.

The Pearl Blue edition does not introduce a new technology or reinvent the silhouette.

It simply demonstrates how far the definition of an everyday sneaker has moved.

A decade ago, much of the engineering visible on the XT-4 would have immediately coded it as outdoor equipment. Today, that same complexity is part of the appeal.

The Salomon XT-4 OG “Pearl Blue / Grisaille / Vanilla Ice” retails for $200.
