New Balance has spent years proving that the 990 does not need much reinvention, and the next 990v4 Made in USA colorway appears to understand that.
A newly surfaced “Silver Moss” edition reportedly pairs muted green with Bright Mint and Black Cement, bringing a little more color to one of New Balance’s most dependable silhouettes without disturbing what makes the shoe work in the first place. The pair is currently expected to arrive sometime in fall 2026 under style code U990GE4, with early reports listing a $270 price.
When the original 990 arrived in 1982, New Balance's objective was fairly audacious: build the best running shoe it could, regardless of price. The result eventually became something much larger than performance footwear.
New Balance itself now describes the 990 as a shoe adopted by both serious runners and “ahead of the curve tastemakers,” with its status enduring even as the model has been repeatedly updated. The v4 arrived in 2016, refining the more modern construction introduced by the v3.
Since Aimé Leon Dore founder Teddy Santis took creative direction of New Balance's Made in USA line, the strategy has rarely depended on radical redesign. Instead, familiar silhouettes have been treated almost like a seasonal wardrobe.
New Balance's current Fall/Winter 2026 Made in USA collection continues that approach, with seasonal 990 models built from premium materials and quieter color stories rather than dramatic structural changes. The company says its Made in USA footwear contains domestic value of 70% or more and represents only a limited portion of its total U.S. sales.
The New Balance Made in USA 990v4 “Silver Moss” is currently reported for fall 2026. New Balance has not yet listed this exact colorway on its U.S. release calendar, so final timing and pricing should be treated as provisional until officially confirmed.
