Covering the upper in tan suede makes the shoe feel heavier, quieter, and more appropriate for colder months, while the black sole gives the otherwise soft palette a harder base

JJJJound and New Balance are returning to the 990v3 for Fall/Winter 2026, revisiting the silhouette that began their footwear partnership in 2018. The new version stays inside the muted palette both brands have made familiar, but changes the construction enough to matter: the usual mesh base has been replaced with a nearly full tan-suede upper, contrasted by a black “N” logo and black sole. An official release date and price have not yet been announced.
The 990v3 has become something of a recurring language between the two brands. JJJJound first used it in 2018, then returned to the model several times in 2022 with olive and brown treatments. That repetition is part of the point. JJJJound rarely approaches collaboration as an opportunity to completely reinvent a shoe. Its strength has been in making small adjustments to color, material, and proportion until an already familiar object feels newly considered.
This pair pushes that philosophy further by removing some of the technical contrast that normally defines the 990v3. Covering the upper in tan suede makes the shoe feel heavier, quieter, and more appropriate for colder months, while the black sole gives the otherwise soft palette a harder base. Even the tongue loses the usual metallic finish in favor of suede, making the entire upper read more like one continuous object.
That restraint is increasingly what separates JJJJound from the collaboration cycle around it. Sneaker partnerships often depend on obvious transformation because the collaboration itself has to announce its presence. JJJJound has spent years doing the opposite. Branding is minimal, familiar colors return, and silhouettes are revisited rather than constantly replaced. The proposition is less “look what we changed” and more “look how little needed changing.”
Returning to the 990v3 eight years after their first release makes that approach especially clear. The model has not become obsolete, and JJJJound does not need a new silhouette to make the partnership feel current. Sometimes longevity is the more interesting design statement. The shoe works because the collaborators already know exactly what they want from it.
