The Come Up: Michael Carmago a.k.a Upscale Vandal

Before he landed into the industry, Michael Carmago found himself hustling in the streets of New York, resulting in an overall 2 year sentencing. Knowing that he had to make it another way, he came home with a new perspective that ultimately transformed the way he decided to live his life. He attributes much of the positive aspect of his upbringing to his sister, who helped him early on.

Although a complete life transformation is tough, fortunately he was well connected enough to land an internship with April Roomet our in Chicago, a celebrity stylist who was doing work for headlining artists like Nas and Big Sean at the time. Carmago being known as a pretty fly dude helped; she initially allowed him to do styling work with Roc Nation/Atlantic artist Santigold, and he began quickly picking up how styling was handled.

He went on to lead sales at Billionaire Boys Club, working alongside the likes of Pharrell, and eventually linked up with Pusha T.

In the interview with Jeff Staple, he drops a myriad of gems that he learned from both the streets and the industry. Listen above and drop your thoughts in the comments.
