Top 5 Favorite Sneaker Releases of 2018 So Far
With the endless amount of shoe releases every week from major retailers like Nike, adidas, Puma, and Reebok, its literally impossible to pick up everything you have your eyes on. Whether that's because you simply can't find them or the fact that buying 5 pairs could be a downpayment on a car, we can all agree that it's tough.
So what do you do? You get super selective. Using an app like Kicks on Fire gives you a month by month outlook on all the major releases you should stay on the lookout for- this way you can set aside $2-$300 for that release you see coming up in September. We at Park + Jungle have done just that. Along with the shoes we've already picked up this year, there's still a few were looking forward to. Here's our Top 5 Favorite Sneaker Releases of 2018 so far:
1) Air Jordan 1 Bred Toe
Release Date: February 24, 2018
Who doesn't like the classic AJ1 silhouette? It's clean, goes with just about every outfit, and is a staple every sneakerhead should have in their collection. I've had numerous conversations with people about how many Jordans lack the actual comfort necessary to play basketball in- but yo! this was 1985, and besides, most people wearing 1's nowadays are probably chilling.
2)YEEZY Boost 700 Wave Runner
Re-Release Date: March 10, 2018
Kanye West has been an undeniable force in fashion since he entered the rap game. As much backlash as he receives from his public outbursts, the man is a culture moving, innovative, g*****s. (That word seems to get people tight, so we refrained from using it here). The YEEZY brand has been an evolution of a neutral, earth-toned color palette; you either love or hate it. His sneaker collection is definitely a departure from what we saw him doing over at Nike, opting for a more lifestyle-based approach. The YEEZY Boost 700 Wave Runner has fallen into the category of a "dad" shoe, but we think in time it may be one of the most classic/memorable designs from the West/adidas venture to date. Something about it is very nostalgic, but contemporary enough to wear daily.
3) adidas KAMANDA
Release Date: April 28th, 2018
Aw, here goes Park+Jungle, showing you that heat you ain't seen yet. The adidas KAMANDA has been a very quiet silhouette floating around the web since the end of 2017. The coverage it has gotten from larger sites like Hypebeast has recieved positive feedback, but it doesn't seem like the demand is as apparent as it has been for their models like the UltraBoost or Superstar craze that happened last year. Anyway, more for us. These is hot, fam.
4) Air Max 97 Plus Layer Cake
Release Date: February 2018
The perfect example of when you spot a kick that's unhyped, but you love it. Sometimes it's better that way, right? The special feature of this shoe that's so special is that it takes its upper from an Air Max 97, and its sole from the Air Max Plus. It looks so right, you could easily miss it without a double take. The colorway is its name; the pastel blue, pink, and green stack on each other like cake, and the orange Nike check on the tongue pops perfectly against the black. If you missed 'em, you can probably still pick them up retail- people slept on these.
5) Dr. Marten 8-Eye Boot BAPE
Release Date: February 2018
Honestly, we missed this. It was around the time we were trying to secure a few pairs of the aforementioned AJ1's and it completely evaded the radar. Dr Marten's aren't technically sneakers, but they operate in a very esteemed place in streetwear culture, doing high-profile collaborations with brands like Supreme, Bape, and Colette, therefore they make the list. C'mon...The classic Doc profile with the embossed BAPE camo??? Man how can you lose?!
